In their sixth year, these awards are now a regular event on the calendar for any aspiring Credit Professional who wants to be named "Credit Professional of the Year".
The inaugural 2003 awards established the awards as a significant event and was one in a series of steps taken by the Institute to promote professionalism within the industry. The 2003 awards followed the recent launch of two national certificates on the New Zealand Qualifications Authority framework; the National Certificate in Credit Administration and the National Certificate in Credit Management.
The Credit Professional of the Year award winner will receive:
- A 5 day return trip for two to the AICM (Australian Institute of Credit Management) 2010 National Conference. Prize includes return flights from within NZ, accommodation, $1,000.00 spending money and entry to the conference.
- NZCFI Credit Professional of the Year trophy.
The award is open to all permanent residents of New Zealand (including non-members of the NZCFI) who have a minimum of six years' experience in the credit industry as of 31 December 2009.

Applications are now open for the NZCFI Credit Professional of the Year.
The judging process has three possible stages;
Stage 1 Nomination Completed December 2009
Stage 2 Self assessments Completed January 2010
Stage 3 Final Interview Completed February 2010
Winner announced March/April 2010
The Young Credit Professional of the Year award winner will receive:
- NZCFI educational grant to complete Level 3 & 4 of the National Certificate in Credit (valued at $1,000)
- Cash prize of $1,000.00
- National recognition and increased professional profile
- One years' complimentary membership to NZCFI
- NZCFI Young Credit Professional of the Year trophy.
The award is open to all permanent residents of New Zealand (including non-members of the NZCFI) who are under 30 years of age as at 31 December 2009.

The judging process has three possible stages;

Winner announced March/April 2010
- All applicants, whether or not they are selected as the winner of either category, must make themselves available for media and promotional opportunities as requested by NZCFI.
- The Judges decision is final and no correspondence relating to the selection of the award winner(s) will be entered into.
- Applications received after the close off date may be considered invalid.
- If there are less than six applications for each category then it is at the judges' discretion to either nominate the applicants for another category (if appropriate) or cancel the category.
- Judges, members of the NZCFI board, are not eligible to enter.
- Accommodation and flights will be booked by NZCFI using preferred suppliers, including airlines and hotels.
