Topic: The BENEFITS of LITIGATING your Debtors & Using TECHNOLOGY to LOCATE People

Mike Farr has been involved in the credit industry in New Zealand for over 40 years. Mike was the owner and operator of a debt collection company that focuses on collection of commercial debt by means of negotiation and litigation and has been retained as a consultant with the new company.

Changing demands of clientele within the credit industry and the historical high turnover rate of collection personnel led Mike to design and implement automated debt litigation software for his collection business, reducing the amount of time spent training personnel and minimising possible disruptions to the professional service rendered to clients.

The changes brought about by the 2014 District Court Rules necessitated substantial changes to the initiating process in the District Court. The seamless implementation of these changes to the collection business by means of the redesigned software and the ease of use by inexperienced personnel highlighted the opportunity to adapt the software and make it available to businesses to manage their own simple debt litigation in house. Cito was established and has grown from strength to strength in its first year of operation.

At present Mike is the Managing Director of Cito and has been retained as a consultant for the collection agency, tending to the daily operations, marketing and customer support services and communication in both businesses. The ongoing practical involvement in with debt litigation and interaction with the Courts and other role players provide Cito with an advantage to determine changes in operations, policy and procedure and allows for pro-active improvements to the system to be effected, keeping Cito customers ahead of the pack.
